Our planet is great to us. It feeds us, sustains us, and houses us. In return, we manage to bury tons and tons of trash into it, destroy its O-zone layer protection, and pollute its bodies of water. We aren’t the nicest party guests, as humans, but that doesn’t stop many from actively helping the environment. The environmentalist movement as a whole continues to fight to protect our planet, and every person can change small things in their lives to significantly improve their footprint on the environment.
The first method is to reduce the use of motor vehicles, and return to jogging, biking, or walking to destinations when possible. This change is immediate, causes less exhaust spewing into the atmosphere, and fewer resources needed to keep your car or truck running. This change can have a dramatic effect, and only requires small changes in your life. Maybe the next time you think you should drive across town to visit a restaurant, walk to a local restaurant or go to a local grocery store and buy ingredients to prepare a dinner. This is a fun way to help the environment, your wallet, and your health.
The second method is to donate or hand down clothes and other items. This change is less immediate, but still very powerful and causes little change to your lifestyle. Think of all the unused resources we waste, all the clothes we don’t wear. Donating these things fill that need in someone else’s life, possibly even someone less fortunate. This means that at the end of the day another person is happy, and has less need to purchase new clothes, leaving less need to create more by industry.
The third method is to turn off lights and devices when not currently in use. This small change benefits by lessening bills and saving money, but also reduces the human footprint and helps protect the planet and environment.
These all are small life changes and quick to implement, but include potentially huge benefits.
