The country’s newest monument in New Mexico

Organ Mountains Desert Peaks was granted monumental status by President Barack Obama in May. This status has been given for the land as it contains many historical and archaeological events in it. By increasing the status of the land it can be helped to recreate the area. This mountain peaks consists of four separate Chinchuahuan dessert. This area is surrounded by Las Cruces in southern New Mexico. This area contains thousands of Native American petro glyphs and pictographs. This place is best for adventures like hikers, mountain bickers, and rock climbers. This place is less crowded and can be looked at like a Stone Age environment.

This area contains jagged Orange Mountains, east of Las Cruces which is the perfect spot for hiking. It has trails at the Campgrounds and Dripping Spring Natural Area at Aguirre Springs. From Aguirre Spring the hikers can reach Baylor Pass trail which is six miles and goes through orange range or Pine Tree trail loop which is four miles and it takes you through pines beneath the spiked pinnacles.

In the Dona Ana Mountain section, northeast of Las Cruces the trails for mountain biking is available. It is nearly a twenty mile network that has a single track and jeep road that goes all along the mountainside. Another biking track is a 29 mile network available in the western slope of Orange Mountain at Sierra Vista National Recreation Trails. It gives you the experience like a roller coaster.

The highlight of the monument is the towering cliffs which makes it a fine spot for rock climbing. The Orange Mountains makes rock climbing almost an epic climb. These areas are not easy to climb it requires long bushwhacking through rugged terrain. This makes this area less crowded. The most famous area is 400 foot Citadel.
