The Skydeck On Sears Tower

The Skydeck On Sears Tower

The Willis Tower or the Sears Tower held the honor of being the tallest building in the world for as many as 25 years. The position has shrunk down to the 12th now. With the 108 stories built into the 442 metres skyscraper, Sears Tower still holds the second rank when high buildings in the US are ranked. All this and more make Sears Tower one of the most popular tourist hotspots in Chicago.

The most exciting part of a visit to the Sears Tower is when one visits the Skydeck for a view of the city and surrounding locales. It is on the 103rd floor of the building. The best part of it is the experience one takes back when the building sways to the tune of winds. Lightning-fast elevators take tourists to the top of the building in a matter of seconds, but tourists must be prepared for some changes as the air-pressure changes. In case the observatory on the 103rd floor is closed, the one on the 99th floor is going to serve the same purpose.

The structure of Sears Tower is made of a number of tubes. There are actually nine tubes that make up the tower and its length. The tower was to have at least 15 tubes when it was planned, but the final building had just nine tubes. The reduction was attributed to the deduction of the hotel that was initially a part of the plan.

Till the first 49 stories, all nine tubes can be seen. Two of them terminate their journey to the top at this point. The remaining seven continue till the 65th floor. From this point, the tower assumes the shape of a cross.
